Description

French culinary treasure from the heart of Berry and Tourraine. Crafted in the town of Valençay in France's Indre department, this exquisite cheese is a testament to artisanal skill and tradition.

Valençay cheese is a sensory delight with its distinctive blue-grey rind, a natural canvas of rustic moulds, beautifully accentuated by a touch of charcoal powder. Available from March to December, each cheese is a piece of French heritage, the cheese achieved AOC status in 1998, making Valençay the first region to achieve AOC status.

Valençay cheese used to have a perfect pyramid shape with a pointed top. But when Napoleon returned to the castle of Valencay after his unsuccessful expedition in Egypt, he saw the cheese, in a fit of rage, drew his sword and cut off the top of the cheese. Since then, the cheese has always been made with a flattened top.
